GPMBoxPlus System Requirements

Minimum specs to install GPMBoxPlus on Windows 10/11 x64: a CPU with VT-x/AMD-V, RAM and disk space, plus why Secure Boot must be off to load the host drivers.

Why must Secure Boot be off?

GPMBoxPlus installs several kernel-mode drivers on the physical machine (the host): VBoxSup.sys, VBoxNetLwf.sys, VBoxNetAdp6.sys, VBoxUSB.sys, VBoxUSBMon.sys, plus the VMMR0.r0 and VBoxDDR0.r0 modules. These files are signed with a GPM certificate chained to a GlobalSign cross-certificate, but they are not yet signed by Microsoft (Microsoft Partner registration and driver submission are in progress).

Since Windows 10 version 1607, when Secure Boot is on Windows only loads kernel drivers signed by Microsoft. As a result, VBoxSup is blocked with error 577 / VERR_VM_DRIVER_NOT_INSTALLED and no virtual machine can start. With Secure Boot off, Windows accepts the GPM signature and Test Mode is not required.

Installation steps

  1. Run GPMBoxPlusChecker.exe to verify the 16 conditions on your PC.
  2. If the Checker reports Secure Boot is on or shows any red/yellow items, follow the guide to disable Secure Boot and check again.
  3. Once the Checker says your PC is ready, continue with installing GPMBoxPlus.
