Create a VM & configure the Fingerprint

How to create a GPMBoxPlus VM: name it, pick a Windows ISO for unattended install, then set the graphics card, CPU, network adapter and Noise canvas on the Fingerprint page.

Preparation

  • GPMBoxPlus has been activated with a license. If not, you can still create virtual machines but cannot start them.
  • An original Windows 10 or Windows 11 installation ISO. GPMBoxPlus detects the ISO to install Windows unattended.
  • At least 20–40 GB of free disk space. Virtual disks are dynamically allocated, so they only take up the space actually used.
  1. Open the New Virtual Machine wizard

In the main window, click New on the toolbar (or press Ctrl + N). The wizard opens in Guided Mode. If you switch to Expert Mode, the Fingerprint section is under Choose the hardware fingerprint at the bottom of the page.

  2. Name the VM and choose an ISO file

    D:\ISO\Win11_24H2_English_x64.iso
    Windows 11 Pro
    ☑ Proceed with Unattended Installation
    1. Name: the VM name. Pick something easy to recognize (for example, by account or project). It must not match another VM in the same folder.
    2. Folder: where the VM is stored. Choose a drive with plenty of free space; it doesn't have to be C:.
    3. ISO Image: click the field and select a Windows ISO. GPMBoxPlus detects the operating system and shows “Detected OS type: Windows 11…”. If the ISO contains several editions, choose the one to install under Edition (for example, Windows 11 Pro).
    4. Keep Proceed with Unattended Installation checked. Click Next.
  3. Installation settings and hardware: keep the defaults

GPMBoxPlus pre-fills suitable values on the next two pages. In most cases you only need to click Next:

Set up unattended guest OS installationUser Name adminWe recommend setting your own Password and writing it down. The Install Guest Additions option is locked because the GPM script installs them automatically.
Specify virtual hardware4096 MB RAM, 256 GB disk, EFI enabledYou can lower the RAM if the host has little memory (minimum 2048 MB for Windows 10). Use EFI is always on and locked.
  4. Configure the Hardware Fingerprint

The Hardware Fingerprint page shows the hardware identity that Windows inside the VM will see. GPMBoxPlus has already generated a complete set, including the graphics card, CPU, network adapter, BIOS, motherboard, disks, audio and identifiers. You can click Next right away or customize the options below.

    TabOptionGuidance
GraphicsGraphics AdapterThe graphics card that Windows inside the VM sees. The list includes mainstream cards: Intel HD/UHD/Iris Xe, AMD Radeon Graphics (APU), NVIDIA GT 710, GTX 750, GTX 1050 Ti, GTX 1650, RTX 3060 Laptop GPU…
GraphicsNoise canvas modeAdds noise to Canvas output. See the note below. It can only be chosen when creating the VM and is locked once Windows is installed.
CPUCPU ModelThe CPU model the VM reports. The list only contains CPUs from the same vendor as the host CPU (Intel or AMD). Choose Default (no CPU spoofing) to use the real CPU name.
NetworkNetwork AdapterThe network adapter the VM reports, with the matching Vendor/Device ID and MAC Address. Choose Default (no adapter spoofing) to use the default virtual network adapter.

The remaining tabs (Operating System, BIOS, System, Baseboard, Chassis, Audio, Disk, Identifiers) show values such as the Product ID, BIOS date, baseboard serial, disk serial, C: Volume Serial, System UUID, Machine ID… These values are view and copy only and cannot be edited by hand. To change them, generate a new fingerprint.

Two buttons to regenerate the fingerprint

    • New Fingerprint: generates a completely new hardware identity.
    • New, Same Adapter: generates a new identity but keeps the current graphics card.

    When you're done, click Next.

  5. Review the Summary, click Finish and wait for Windows to install

The summary page lists the configuration, including Hardware Fingerprint, Graphics Adapter, CPU Model, Network Adapter and MAC Address. Click Finish. The VM is created, starts up and installs Windows automatically.

Once Windows has installed and reached the Desktop, the “GPM Driver Installer - Do not exit this window” window runs automatically. This script installs graphics drivers, optimizes Windows, applies the fingerprint, and installs Chrome and tools. Do not close this window. When you see the line “All done, Restart to allow all changes to take effect !”, restart the VM.

After the restart, the VM's Desktop has shortcuts for GPM Proxy Tunnel, Proxifier Setup and Throne so you can set up a proxy for the VM.

Edit the Fingerprint after creation

Shut down the VM, select it in the list → Settings → the Fingerprint page. The interface is identical to the page in the New Virtual Machine wizard. A few notes:

  • For a VM that already has Windows installed, New Fingerprint still keeps the values written into Windows during installation (operating system info, identifiers, Volume Serial, audio, canvas). The rest of the hardware is regenerated.
  • Use New, Same Adapter when you only want to change the identity without changing the graphics card. The graphics driver inside the VM is tied to that card.
  • If the page reports that the graphics card “is not in the adapter catalogue of this build”, click New Fingerprint to pick a supported card. Otherwise, Windows inside the VM will fall back to the basic display adapter without full color.
  • The graphics card identity only takes effect when the graphics controller is VBoxSVGA. If the page shows a warning about the graphics controller, go to the Display page and set Graphics Controller back to VBoxSVGA.
